The Dallas Advertising League Foundation was looking for a print ad they could keep on file just in case they ever saw an affordable opportunity to use it. Unfortunately (to the best of my knowledge), that opportunity never came but the ad was completed regardless.

This ad has always been a favorite of mine because:

  • It puts Dallas front and center (both literally and figuratively)
  • It differs strongly from a lot of the other work the DALF was doing at the time
  • It’s got a really cool, “we know how awesome we are” vibe

Yeah.

AT&T U-verse Programming Packages Collateral

NOTE: These three pieces were created on a concept basis only. They were never published.

I wanted to show the full range of sports and movie programming available on AT&T U-verse, and I wanted to do it in a quick, concise and fun way. Something that would work whether it’s attached to a door as a door hanger or next to the highway as a billboard.

These were a lot of fun to work on but proved to be quite difficult. Pairing quotes that the average person would recognize immediately as a movie quote AND well known sports terms or cliches was a tricky endeavor. In addition to the one above I came up with two others.

Check them out below:

Fall 2008 DSVC Rough Magazine — Fresh Face Interview

I write an interview piece called the “Fresh Face” in each issue of the DSVC’s Rough Magazine. The one you see above is from the Fall 2008 issue (Volume 17, Issue 136) and it featured Kristen Massey, an art director at The Integer Group.

Check out the video below for a quick look at the entire issue.

So far I have done 9 Fresh Face interviews for the DSVC (check out a couple examples HERE and HERE). They’re a lot of fun.

Thanks to the DSVC and to Jeremy Sharp for the gig.

“No trades unless it’s for a gun”

Via ITE:

rifle

A recent craigslist furniture search by one of our readers yielded awesome results. Check it out:

Changing table and three drawer chest used for both of our kids. Good overall shape. Middle drawer on dresser sticks a little, small scratch on right side top rail of changer. No trades unless it’s for a gun.

Check out the ad HERE.

I love the idea of trading kid furniture for weaponry. That could even be a brand new, untapped money-making idea for a store.

“Come on down to Azle’s Finest Kid Furniture/Gun Barter Paradise. We’ve got everything you need, as long as everything you need is a gun or some furniture for your kids.”

Barter is awesome.

McDonald’s McRib Farewell Tour 2 song

mcrib-lyrics

Lyric art from the McRib Farewell Tour 2 website (10/06) (Click to enlarge)

Back in October of 2006 I had the opportunity to work on a song for the McDonald’s McRib Farewell Tour 2 campaign. The song, which can be heard below, was called “Mark on me” and was eventually sung by the lead singer of a local AC/DC cover band.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The song was one of two songs prominently featured on the McDonald’s Farewell Tour 2 website and was also used in radio spots in select regions.

This still resonates as one of my all time favorite projects for a couple reasons:

  1. I was asked to write a song in the style of an 80′s power ballad, which is like a dream come true. Describing the McRib as having a “succulent kiss” is still one of the high points of my career.
  2. At the time I was unemployed, so to find some work and then have that work be this bad-ass was really fortunate.

Thanks to Justin Lloyd for the opportunity.

And thanks to McDonald’s for that weird little pink pork foam sandwich. Without it the opportunity never would have come my way.
